Cyclists: turn left at No Left Turn sign

Cycling to Leyton? Turn left at the NO LEFT TURN sign.

First Avenue E17 forms part of the London cycle network. The junction with Hoe Street is closed to motor vehicles but a one-metre wide cycle lane allows access for cyclists, with a dedicated signalled crossing.

Helpful signing advises those cyclists wishing to go to Leyton to turn left. Such a shame this is a NO LEFT TURN facility for cyclists (because if you turned left you’d cut across the parallel signalled crossing for pedestrians and risk colliding with someone).

To use this facility just press the button, which is cleverly sited out of reach of the cycle lane, and faces away from it.

British cycling infrastructure – in a world of its own!
