And if you look in the background you'll see that faced with the choice between putting in a full-size cycle lane or creating parking spaces for lazy shoppers, the Council naturally went for the second option. Cyclists are now forced out towards the middle of the carriageway and have the extra hazard of 'dooring'. A classic example of how conditions for walkers and cyclists are actually getting worse, not better.
