Pilot brought down to earth

An air ambulance pilot was jailed for four months yesterday for trying to lie his way out of a £60 speeding ticket.

Joseph Drury, aged 27, claimed an Icelandic woman he had met on holiday was the driver of his Audi when it was caught at 63mph in a 40mph limit.

He then falsified his flying records to show he was in the air over Bordeaux at the very moment his car was filmed speeding in Embankment Road in Plymouth, Devon.

At the time he had just six points on his licence but faced prosecution for failing to identify the driver for another traffic offence.

He also has a previous conviction for drink driving.
