Waltham Forest Council promotes car dependency
High Road Leyton. Cycle lane with shoppers' parking bays. Just down the road from the Olympic site.
Traffic levels over the past decade have grown in outer London, in some boroughs by as much as 15% – in sharp contrast to most inner London boroughs, which have reduced their traffic
Currently, around half of all car journeys in the outer London boroughs are less than 2 miles, a distance that could easily be walked or cycled by most people.
In an effort to get more people driving to their local shops, Waltham Forest Council is removing parking charges from 29 streets in Leyton and Chingford. In the very near future you’ll be able to park free for up to 15 minutes in the shoppers’ parking bays on these streets.
