A trucker mowed down and killed a cyclist in Wakefield before driving off and throwing the bike away, Leeds Crown Court heard.
Mr Stubbs continued before stopping in a lay-by some miles away and pulled out the bike which, the prosecution say, he threw away into a field to destroy evidence.
Mr Stubbs, of George Street, Bicester, Oxford, then drove back to his depot in Oxfordshire. The court heard he was an agency driver who was returning from delivering goods to Homebase in Wakefield when the accident happened.
Police traced him through eye-witness descriptions of the vehicle and when arrested, he said he knew nothing about it.
Mr Stubbs denies causing death by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice.
