A Bloody New Year

DOCTORS were last night battling to save the life of a man who was badly injured in a crash that killed his girlfriend. Scott Ramsay, 24, was in a critical but stable condition at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

He was walking home with his girlfriend Caroline Cumming, 23, when they were mown down by a Ford Mondeo in the city at around 7am on New Year's Day.

Caroline died at the scene after being thrown over a metal barrier and left crumpled against a wall.

Susan Heaney's Ford Transit spun out of control as it was leaving the M65 near Burnley on Saturday afternoon. The 45-year-old, from Leigh in Greater Manchester, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Colin Somerville, 24, from Stornoway, died when his Astra was in collision with an Audi on the A859 Stornoway to Tarbert road on Saturday morning.
