Bicycle thieves

(Above) I spotted this while in York last week. It seems to be a case of 'never lock your bike by just the wheel'. Someone armed with a monkey wrench has presumably unscrewed two nuts and made off with most of the bike. Which makes it all the more ridiculous that places like Homebase in Walthamstow supply cycle parking based on the 'lock your bike by the front wheel' principle.

The York cycle stand was in St George's Field by Skeldergate Bridge. A somewhat out of the way location for cycle parking, and it's hard to see whose interests were served by putting cycle stands there. Apart from bike thieves, that is.

(Below) Someone seems to have made off with both wheels and the saddle, leaving behind the rest. Walthamstow Town Square. Yesterday.
