Speeding detective talking on mobile phone ‘lost control’ and crashed

A detective who was running late for an early-morning meeting was speeding and using his mobile phone when he crashed into a bungalow, killing himself, an inquest heard yesterday.
The CID officer was seen by Vincenzo Capezzuto, a telephone engineer, driving at about 70mph on the 40mph stretch of the A337 Lymington Road in Highcliffe moments before he crashed.

Mr Morton, 32, lost control and hit the kerb. His Skoda Fabia spun sideways and became embedded in the detached bungalow. Peter Tanswell, in his eighties, woke in the early hours of October 26 to smoke, debris and a car in his bedroom.
