Bicycle art in Waltham Forest

This year’s E17 Art Trail invites local artists to bestow, which can mean put (something) in a specified place. This window in a house on Wingfield Road E17 (above) displays a larger-than-life photograph of the front part of a racing bicycle.

Inside Walthamstow Bike Shed (at the back of the new station development) the displays include a bicycle wrapped in white paper and a bicycle covered in pages from the Daily Mail.

Perhaps the most poignant contribution of all comes from notorious local artist Chris Robbins, whose installation “Leytonstone Bike Shed On A Weekday” brilliantly evokes the desolation of a borough where few cycle and even fewer wish to use the council’s bike sheds.
