Crime and (Light) Punishment

Schofield had touched 104mph in the moments before he ploughed into Mr Williams's car in Over Kellet, near Lancaster. The pensioner's widow, Jean, from Bolton-le-Sands, Lancs, survived the crash, but he died in hospital the following day. Judge Brian Lewis, who described the officer's speed as "terrifying", fined him £500 and banned him from driving for two years.
