Murphy
You might think that the contractors Murphy employed big burly Irishmen, who could take life in their stride. Far from it. Murphy's labourers are delicate creatures with a fragile nervous system which is easily disturbed by the vibrations caused by passing cyclists.
This is why on Forest Road (near the waterworks roundabout) they have directed cyclists out into the main carriageway, where drivers come belting down the road at 50 mph after emerging from the M11 and North Circular.
There are no roadworks up ahead. The Murphy men are working in the grassy land by the bridge, to the left of the railings. Yesterday.
