Council pioneers ‘tolls for cycling’ scheme

The London Borough of Waltham Forest is introducing tolls for cyclists later this year. Cyclists will be required to put a one pound coin into toll gates installed on major cycle lanes. 'For too long cyclists have had a something-for-nothing attitude. It's time they gave something back to the community,' said Councillor Bob Belam, cabinet member for Clean Streets.

The revenue acquired from the cycling tax will be spent on
distributing free 'self steering' power-assisted walking aids to local 4X4 drivers who require assistance in moving from the comfort of their vehicles to local shops, pubs and restaurants.
