Of cops, cars and road rage

The Times has uncovered the fact that

Senior police officers are receiving “off-book payments” and secret perks totalling hundreds of thousands of pounds, including private school fees and cars for their spouses.

A Chief Constable’s hidden perks can include a £32,000 car allowance

On a different topic, it emerges that the balaclava-concealed police officer who hit Ian Tomlinson from behind with a truncheon and then shoved him to the ground, should never have been employed by the Metropolitan Police.

The officer had apparently been retired from the Met with a serious disciplinary charge hanging over him, barring him from rejoining. Several years ago, while serving with the Met, he was apparently due to face a misconduct hearing over an off-duty road-rage row.
