Trees collide with cars

Tree number one

Emergency services were called to Wood End Road in Wednesfield on Friday afternoon after reports a car had left the road and hit a tree.

[The expression ‘left the road’ is an interesting one, is it not? As smooth and uneventful as ‘left the shop’ or ‘left the party’ and so much nicer than, say, ‘careered off’. And it implicitly attaches all the responsibility to the car rather than the driver.]

Tree number two

A 26-year-old man from Scarborough was killed when his car left the road at Staxton and hit a tree near the Merry Lees caravan park.
