Last night I watched the Kate Adie documentary on the Tiananmen Square massacre.
The Chinese government is keen to put that unpleasantness behind it and to present China as a freedom-loving and tolerant society. And guess what happens when you pull out a camera at a travel terminal - a cop comes running to stop you!
"The local police seem to have a limited understanding of openness," sniffed Kate. And it made me think how lucky we are to live in a country where the police would never dream of threatening a foreign tourist taking pictures of buses at a bus station, or a cyclist photographing a cycle lane in Croydon, or a blogger taking pics of a double-decker bus which had crashed.
