The lethal world of vehicular cycling (2)

Another case of a very experienced cyclist who was run down and killed, on this occasion in a situation which for the driver was one of reduced visibility.

What is obscure from the newspaper report is the precise location of the cyclist when he was hit. By the sound of it he was pulling out into the middle of the road to turn into the farm entrance when the driver came over the brow of the hill and hit him. An accident. In the absence of compulsory black box data recorders in motor vehicles the driver’s speed at the time of the collision is a matter of estimation.
