Judge slams ‘feeble’ penalty for driver

Judge John Bevan:

It may be no wonder that some young men repeatedly drive while disqualified dozens of times and come before this court because they know the penalty for doing so is feeble. 'This is a very different case but the penalty all the same is feeble.'

He did not give White full credit for a guilty plea, only reducing his sentence from six months to five-and-a-half months in jail. He told the court: 'If there are those who regard that as a travesty of justice then all I can say is that that is not the fault of this court.'
