One of the many topics excluded from discussion by both politicians and the mass media in this election campaign is road carnage:
A car which crashed into a tree, killing four people, was travelling so fast it was physically ripped in two, a witness claimed yesterday. Four men from Hampshire died and a fifth was seriously injured when their car ploughed into a tree on the A4229 near Porthcawl, South Wales, on Thursday night.
The four fatalities were named last night as Tommy Marsh, 17, Tommy Elmes, 16, as Lewis Mackley, 19, and Danny Philbrow, 43, all from Portsmouth.
Early indications are the Vauxhall Vectra left the road close to the Grove Golf Club.
