Learn from an expert

There are always lots and lots of drivers on Hoe Street who can be seen chatting into handheld mobile phones as they drive through a densely-populated shopping area. Quite rightly they attract no attention from the police, whose limited resources are devoted to much bigger concerns, such as the threat posed by tourists taking photographs of double-decker buses.

Yesterday I was impressed to see a driving instructor who was using a handheld mobile as he sped south along Hoe Street at 9.15 a.m. His interest was text rather than conversation, and his car identified itself as representing the Franklin Driving School. The registration number was, I think, KJ57 UFW.

This is an excellent development, as it is important that learner drivers develop their skills in driving with one hand while using a mobile phone from an expert rather than simply attempt to teach themselves.
